Metallica has set out on a victory lap after releasing their new album, 72 Seasons, to praise from the masses. The legendary band has officially started their world tour in support of their 11th studio album, which was released to rave reviews earlier this month. Metallica has a busy touring schedule for 2023 and earlier tonight (April 27), they started things off with an explosive performance in Amsterdam at the Johan Cruijff Arena. This tour differs from any tour Metallica has done as the band is doing two nights in each city and promising to not repeat any song during their two-day stay. With these boundaries set and a whole album’s worth of new material to pull out, Metallica started their world tour on a high note.

The band split the setlist between new material and some of their timeless classics. They kicked things off with “Orion”, which marked the first time the Master of Puppets track was used as an opening song since 2011. Speaking of the band’s 80’s classic, Metallica also pulled out the title track and “Battery” (including the middle section) from the aforementioned LP, making Master of Puppets one of the four albums that got revisited multiple times to create this 16-song tracklist. Along with it was their 2023 album which saw tracks like “Lux Æterna”, “Screaming Suicide”, and “Sleepwalk My Life Away” get performed, the last two making their live debuts. The band also focused on their self-titled LP and 1984’s Ride The Lighting, Check out the full tracklist below.

Metallica’s M72 world tour is set to be a big one. The band will keep to their promise of no repeats during their two-night stays across the globe. The band will be bouncing around Europe until June 18 when they will head to the States to start the North American leg of the tour at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. The band will then hit cities across the country and travel into Canada and finally, Mexico to wrap up their globe-trotting tour in September. Check out the full list of dates here and see some footage from tonight’s opening show in Amsterdam below.
