Chatbots Want to Plan Your Future Trips — Should You Let Them?

From the moment it was launched by OpenAI, the popularity of ChatGPT seems to be on a constant rise. The latest data show that the ChatGPT website was visited more than 1.6 billion times in June 2023. This number is undoubtedly impressive, and people find a way to use ChatGPT in various ways to improve their daily lives and activities. One of them includes travel.

Users have been asking chatbots to create a complete travel itinerary for various locations around the world, and it seems like AI is doing an excellent job of providing all the necessary information for a successful trip.

This very idea encouraged companies like Microsoft and Google to create their chatbots. Microsoft’s version even focused on the idea of AI-generated travel itineraries, which is absolutely revolutionary at this point. However, they are still working on perfecting the results.

But ChatGPT is here, and people are enjoying it. But is it safe to use? What happens with prompts we type in?

Solid results

Chatbots allow you to give as much information about your trip as possible. You can tell them the length of your visit, what you want to see, your budget, etc. It is essentially like talking to a travel agent. And keep in mind that this is just the beginning of AI. Imagine what else is in store for us in the years to come.

However, the main question is, can chatbots completely replace trip planners? Currently, humans are superior when planning a trip, but chatbots seem to be doing a great job of creating schedules and giving users all the important suggestions for their travels. But if you are looking for an exceptional travel experience, your best bet is talking to locals if possible.

Some travelers have visited one location several times, and famous tourist attractions are not interesting to them anymore. Experiencing a place in a new way is always welcome. Therefore, asking someone who lives there is highly recommended. You will learn about hidden gems and places you might not see on a standard sightseeing route.

Additionally, some users who have asked a chatbot for a travel itinerary got unusual and worrying results. For instance, chatbots are not always correct and could suggest you visit a town in Mexico while planning to visit Tokyo. Sometimes they come up with fictional locations as well, which can lead to further confusion.

Privacy concerns

Planning a trip with the help of a chatbot requires you to share some personal information. It might seem harmless at first, but remember that you are talking with AI, which is collecting and storing the prompts you type in. It is evident in your chat history. Additionally, a chatbot will also log your IP address, and that can be a privacy concern.

OpenAI claims that ChatGPT will only ask for your email when you want to become a registered user, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Fortunately, there is a way to minimize the collected data by using a ChatGPT VPN

One of the main features of a VPN is protecting your actual location. When you connect to a VPN server, you are assigned a new IP address, which can come in handy when using

ChatGPT. Furthermore, your ISP won’t be able to see your browsing history and log that you have been talking to a chatbot.

Additionally, ChatGPT VPN is an excellent tool for traveling. Globe trotters know that various content is geo-blocked in countries around the world. For instance, Netflix doesn’t have the same selection of titles in Great Britain and the States. A VPN can open a world of streaming possibilities to you.

Most importantly, VPN can improve your safety when using public Wi-Fi networks. They can be a lifesaver when abroad, but there are many dangers that come with connecting to an open network. Some are completely unregulated, and you never know who might be lurking there.

So if you end up installing ChatGPT VPN for communicating with a chatbot, remember that this service has various other perks that can elevate your online security.

Can we trust chatbots?

One of the frequent concerns among AI enthusiasts is how far this technology should go. Despite their solid results in travel planning, chatbots are notoriously unreliable. Some might even come up with information that simply isn’t true, which can be problematic if we follow their suggestions.

Moreover, travel planning will require personal user information, and providing it to AI might have consequences that we can’t yet imagine. OpenAI creators have been frank about the mistakes made by ChatGPT and acknowledge that the chatbot can make up some pieces of content.

With that said, OpenAI creators have stated that people should use the text as mere suggestions. While you are free to use chatbots for trip planning, you should learn how to input the correct prompts and communicate with AI properly. It will provide the best results that could make your next holiday unforgettable.

Just remember that not all content generated by a chatbot is necessarily 100% true. Double-checking is highly recommended, especially for lesser-known locations. A chatbot might send you to a place that doesn’t exist or is on another continent. On the other hand, trip planners are here to stay, and chatbots won’t replace them anytime soon.
