It is hard to believe 2023 is so close to coming to a close. This year provided us with jaw-dropping releases across all genres with veterans entering new territories and refreshing acts looking to take over their respective scenes. Every genre from conventional jazz to obscure ambient has some unforgettable releases to brag about. It is that time of year, sadly, when the new music starts to slow down. Artists begin to keep a low profile with plans to burst into the new year with some big announcement or, even better, brand-new music. Thankfully, some artists like to get a head start.

As the weather gets crisper and new music Fridays feel uneventful compared to the jam-packed Fridays of the past, music nerds like us need something to keep us excited as we toil away at our year-end list. Glide has gone through some of the already-announced LPs for 2024 and picked the 10 we’re most excited to hear.

Check out our picks for the most exciting new music to come in 2024 below.

Brittany Howard – What Now

Releases: February 2

Brittany Howard has established herself as a once-in-a-generation talent. From her fantastic work as the frontwoman and co-founder of Alabama Shakes, her 2019 solo debut skyrocketed her to the forefront of the alternative music scene, although putting her sound into a genre is doing her art a great disservice. What Now is promising to cement her legacy even further as she explores new sounds like the hyperactive electronic-driven title track and the vibrant “Red Flags”.

Ty Segall – Three Bells

Releases: January 26

Coming off the folk-inspired acoustics of his 2022 LP “Hello, Hi”, the unpredictable Ty Segall is prepping his latest creation. Three Bells is already shaping up to be a more expansive and nuanced outing considering each of the singles showcases his impressive guitar work in a completely different light. The album is set to be released via Drag City and is already sounding like Segall’s best work in recent memory.

Grandaddy – Blu Wav

Releases: February 16

The long-running and prolific project fronted by singer/songwriter Jason Lytle had one surprising 2023. They released two different demo-style projects with Blu Wav looking to put the icing on the cake. The album’s lead single, “Watercooler” is a moody ballad set to a minimal arrangement that allows Lytle’s vocals to glide over sleek guitar stylings freely.

Yard Act – Where’s My Utopia?

Releases: March 1

Yard Act wasted no time establishing a unique sound that combines its witty lyrics with infectious instrumentals. Their 2022 debut album came after a few singles and their 2021 EP garnered them critical acclaim and an unwavering fan base. The band looks to keep their hot streak alive on Where’s My Utopia? and its lead single “Dream Job” showcases every little thing that makes Yard Act so exciting.

Office Dog – Spiel

Releases: January 26

The fact Office Dog’s debut record has everyone in such a frenzy is a testament to the refreshing pop-punk sound they’ve established. With three singles from Spiel available now, the rest of the LP is already shaping up to create a crater-like impact on the alternative rock scene. Get familiar with one of the most exciting bands to come out in 2023 before their debut places even more eyes on the refreshing young band.

The Smile – Wall of Eyes

Releases: January 26

When The Smile first debuted back in 2022 with their stunning A Light for Attracting Attention album, no one knew what a 2023 Radiohead off-shoot would sound like. The results had the band on the road for what felt like an eternity and saw them release a live album that same year. Wall of Eyes has to be one of the most anticipated sophomore releases in many years with both singles showcasing a different side of the trio made up of true veterans. “Bending Hectic” has the band experimenting with structure to create a sprawling single while the gentle acoustics of the title track show a more sentimental side of The Smile.

Idles – Tangk

Releases: February 16

The controlled chaos of post-punk icons Idles has carved its lane in a busy genre with plenty of bands to choose from. Idles is not like those other bands, their discography is brimming with innovation and frantic vocals that make the spirit mosh by itself. The lead single for Tangk already shows hints of experimentation from Idles as their cartoonish vocals navigate a busy chorus that melts into serene verses.

J Mascis – What Do We Do Now

Releases: February 2

Longevity is a gift for any musician and J Mascis is the perfect example of an artist who doesn’t waste a single second of it. The legendary Dinosaur Jr. frontman is readying another solo LP, marking his first solo outing since 2018’s Elastic Days. His raspy vocals fit perfectly over the cheery guitar tones as he pens poetic lyrics.

MGMT – Loss Of Life

Releases: February 23

The legendary synth-pop duo is emerging with their first album since 2018’s fantastically psychedelic Little Dark Ages and it is sounding like another hit. Along with a very fun roll-out that you can follow along with via the band’s Instagram, Loss of Life has already provided us with a gorgeously hectic single “Mother Nature”. MGMT have always stuck in their lane but their 2024 album already feels like a rebirth for the duo.

Glass Beach – plastic death

Releases: January 19

The post-punk bliss of Glass Beach exploded onto the scene with their fantastic debut, the appropriately named the first glass beach album. Their long-awaited follow-up is shaping up to be even more expansive as the two singles show a band not taking the spotlight for granted and exploring new territories of their artistry. Their 13-song sophomore is still weeks away but it would take a lot for it to be anywhere near a disappointment.

Sleater-Kinney – Little Rope

Releases: January 19

The guitar powerhouse has had a very busy few years and they are keeping it going in 2024 with a brand new album. Little Rope is set to be released on January 19 and will feature the two unforgettable singles, the frantic “Hell” and the emotional “Say It Like You Mean It”. Little Rope comes on the heels of Sleater-Kinney’s 2022 cover LP Dig Me In and 2021’s Path of Wellness

Real Estate – Daniel

Releases: February 23

The New Jersey-bred indie band has been crafting light-hearted melodies that deliver potent poetry for over a decade now and their upcoming album feels like their most important yet. Daniel will feature 11 brand-new compositions from the band including the dreamlike “Water Underground” single. Daniel will follow Real Estate’s daring 2021 LP, the sprawling Half a Human

Judas Priest – Invincible Shield

Releases: March 8

The legendary metalheads are descending from the top of the genre’s Mount Rushmore to deliver their latest gift to the world. Invincible Shield boasts 14 tracks and if the rest of the album is anything like the two singles, we are in store for another Judas Priest classic. Invincible Shield comes on the heels of 2018’s standout Firepower as the band continues to be calculated with every release even four decades into their career.

Bruce Dickinson – The Mandrake Project

Releases: March 1

Another legend of the metal scene is returning with brand new music but this time, only one man is taking the spotlight. Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson is set to release his new theatrical LP The Mandrake Project on March 1, his first album of solo material since 2005. Dickinson has given us a look into the upcoming release with “Afterglow of Ragnarok”, a booming lead single with epic crescendos and chugging melodies.

Sarah Shook & The Disarmers – Revelations

Releases: March 29

Following up on their stand-out 2022 LP Nightroamer, Sarah Shook & The Disarmers are back with another LP. Revelations is the first album Shook produced themself and its lead single is already showing the influence this newfound freedom has allowed them to discover. “Backsliders” is a twangy ballad with the attitude of punk as Shook pens some of their best work yet.

The Last Dinner Party – Prelude to Ecstasy

Releases: February 2

The Last Dinner Party has found the middle ground of minimal and grandiose, toying with this middle ground to create off-kilter pop tracks that aim for your heart. The band’s debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy already has an immense amount of buzz around it. All you need to hear is one of the mesmerizing singles and you’ll be anticipating February 2 as much as the rest of us. The band mixes emotional vulnerability with a refusal to be pushed around, creating powerful messages delivered via technicolored arrangements.
