LISTEN: Matt Monsoor’s Wistful Flight of Indie Folk Remains Imaginative

Entering Matt Monsoor’s farmhouse, you’re struck by a plethora of unique furniture. He’s called this spot atop a mini-mountain home for 25 years. Nestled in the driftless region of Wisconsin, surrounded by horse pastures and gnarled apple trees. Post high school, Matt ventured to Los Angeles in the early ’90s landing at the Paramour Mansion in the storied Silver Lake area. Inspired by his cousin, he picked up the guitar and discovered a passion for music and building furniture. After a stint in LA, he returned home. Equipping a woodworking shop in his farmhouse, he began crafting a menagerie of art/furniture pieces and home recordings he titled “Comfortably Lost in Greenfield” after the township in which he lives.

Refreshingly imaginative and undeniably catchy, Monsoor’s new track feels like a walk through the forest. “Pareidolia” is a nimble tune that grabs your attention without trying, the gentle vocals circle your head as the minimal yet potent arrangement swirls around the rest of the room. Monsoor’s music is a full-body experience and is reminiscent of Andrew Bird at his most wistful.
