Weird is a subjective term, but each Wednesday at Glide we will strive to deliver something decidedly off-kilter to keep you on your collective toes. Indeed, Weirdo Wednesdays will be a celebration of all things avant-garde, cerebral, experimental, peculiar, psychedelic, (and occasionally just batshit-crazy) that may or may not leave you scratching your head (you know, depending on how weird you are, of course).
That said, weirdness can also certainly be more subtle, as evidenced by this artfully ethereal Aphex Twin video from 1993. Mr. Richard D. James was coming into his own at the time, and although he went on to make stranger more menacing music videos (i.e. “Come to Daddy”), there’s always been a lot of inherited beauty to be found in his music, particularly his pieces that straddle the line between his purely ambient work and his more beat-driven/up-tempo material, which “On” captures beautifully here.
