Charlie & Margot is the brainchild of New Jersey native Matteo DeBenedetti. A songwriter since childhood, Matteo cut his teeth in various bands touring the DIY circuit of the East Coast for the last decade. 2019 brought an unprecedented moment of introspection, and out of the uncertainty of what would follow that year Charlie and Margot was born as a solo songwriting venture, taking its name from Matteo and his wife’s two dogs.
What starts as a minimal ballad explodes into chaotic rock bliss on Charlie & Margot’s single “bug”. The jagged distortion of the arrangement is juxtaposed by the simplistic yet potent poetry of the songwriting, creating a sonic conflict that is simply undeniable. The arrangement dips into moments of punk-influenced folk before sliding back into neck-breaking drums that are soothed by the sentimental guitar work.
