Continuing with our Steve Albini tribute this week, it’s no secret that he “engineered” (his preferred term to describe his work as a studio producer) some absolutely classic albums by the likes of the Pixies, Nirvana, Slint, and PJ Harvey (just to name a few). But not many people know that he also worked with Magnolia Electric Company to engineer their album Josephine in 2009, which sadly turned out to be their last due to the untimely death of Jason Molina, who passed away a few years later at the all too young age of 39. The documentary below offers an intimate behind-the-scenes account of the making of that album, which was bittersweet enough considering Molina’s death, but now carries extra wait given the recent passing of Albini as well. R.I.P. Steve and Jason.
