SONG PREMIERE: Heart of Pine Ignites & Takes Notice With Fiery Country/Blues Rocker “Hello Heartache”

While nobody can touch Chris Stapelton’s vocal bravado, a little-known singer from a band called Heart of Pine might come close, though. Steven Bagwell’s powerful baritone immediately makes the most casual song an impact listen, yet this Athens, GA-based musician definitely isn’t taking the easy way out,

Heart of Pine was formed in 2015 by Bagwell and Travis Richardson following a series of highly productive songwriting sessions. The band’s self-described “Southedelic” sound is inspired by a culmination of influences reminiscent of the hard-charging, fiery Roots/Jam/Americana sounds of The Steeldrivers, Gov’t Mule, Whiskey Myers, and Blackberry Smoke.

In 2019, Heart of Pine released their debut album, Highly Flammable, and in recent years, they have expanded the lineup to include keyboard extraordinaire Jesse Fountain, multi-instrumentalist Boone Hood on bass, and longtime Athens, GA musician Todd Headley on drums. This current configuration has really ignited the band and spurred on the further development of the Southedelic sound fans have come to know and love. and now they are back with Southern Soul Revival, out August 2nd, featuring eight originals and a potent reinterpretation of Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs To Me.”

Glide is premiering the powerful “Hello Heartache,” which steams with an earthy rumble with blistering guitar work and sweaty organ accompaniment.

“The intro for this song was created while at Japanski Studios recording. I had the pedal steel-ish guitar bend, and Boone came up with a transitional chord progression that just worked. Jesse laid down those keys pad and Todd brings it all in with a heavy drum fall,” says Bagwell about the tune.
