One of the first times most people encounter a casino is through a TV show or a film. There are lots of films that show casinos as an upmarket place where everyone is dressed up to the nines in their fanciest outfits. James Bond is always waltzing through a casino in his tux with a martini in hand.
However, TV shows often portray casinos in a bit of a different way. Even though a lot of people in real life play at an online casino, this isn’t typically shown in TV shows. The casinos we see on the small screen are often full of normal people playing a few games, which feels a lot more relatable.
We’ll be taking a look at what we think are the top three casino scenes on TV so far.
Best casino TV scenes of all time
- Friends – The One in Vegas (Parts One and Two)
Starting off with a humorous TV scene, it’s Friends. This TV show was popular when it first launched onto our TV screens, but it hasn’t lost any of its popularity. In fact, it’s even more popular now than when it first came out. And this is definitely a fan favourite when it comes to choosing a top episode.
In this double episode, the gang are all on a trip to Las Vegas for some laughs and some gaming fun. There are plenty of casino scenes across both of these episodes but one of the most memorable ones is where Monica and Chandler are at a craps table.
Having previously had a fight over Monica having lunch with Richard, they are now in the process of making up with one another. As they keep getting better and better at the game, they make more and more extravagant promises to one another.
In the end, Chandler makes the biggest promise of all and says that if they roll a hard eight, they’ll get married right then and there. One of the dice is a four and the other one rolls under the table. They crawl under and are shocked to find another four on the second dice.
They’re all ready to go to the chapel and get married having gotten their something old, borrowed and blue from around the casino store. But as they get there, who would be coming out except Ross and Rachel! The pair are stunned and immediately put off getting married before they find out how this could have happened.
It’s one of the funniest and surprising moments of the show – and both episodes are full of casino scene fun.
- The Office – Casino Night
The Office is another show that stays as popular now as it was when it first came out. There’s not many characters as funny or recognisable as Michael Scott and he has some absolutely outrageous lines in this episode. It turns out that Steve Carell actually wrote this script himself which makes it all the better.
He’s set up a charity casino night event in the warehouse and accidentally invites two dates. One of them being his boss Jan, and the other is his real estate agent Carol.
The whole episode is set up around the casino night and all of the office are enjoying themselves playing different games. The only person having a bit of a nightmare is Michael as he tries to avoid his two dates bumping into each other.
Of course, this doesn’t actually work and they both end up realising that Michael has invited them both, leading Carol to throw the overnight bag she’d brought back into the boot of her car as she leaves.
- The Sopranos – Chasing It
The Sopranos is well known for being one of the most dramatic – and successful – TV shows in history. And this casino TV scene is no exception when it comes to drama.
Tony is visiting the Borgata Casino and everything is going pretty well at first. He’s winning bigger than he anticipated, but then everything takes a turn for the worse. He puts it all on 23 and loses the winnings he’d just managed to accumulate.
Not only does he have this current disaster to deal with, but he’s also in some serious debt to Hesh. The money he owes goes into six figures so Tony is really in the deep end after yet another casino loss.
Money is always being owed left, right and centre in The Sopranos but this episode has some of Tony’s darkest moments in it. If there’s one thing we can take from this scene, it’s how not to act when you’re suffering from a massive loss. Tony represents the dangers that can come from chasing a loss, and how we should not act when we lose at a casino game.
Can you think of any other great casino TV scenes that we missed?
