Northern Blood is Lawrence Halsey Jr and John Castiglia. They had known each other for over 30 years but had not seen each other for over 20 years. They reconnected at the funeral of Lawrence’s father-in-law shortly after they started working on what would become The Space Between Two Oceans—a fitting title with Lawrence currently calling California home while John lives in New Jersey.
Northern Blood’s sound is built on the chemistry between its two members, and “Wire Road” is the epic slow-burning stand-out from their latest release. Gravely vocals juxtaposed the space-aged guitar tones in an awe-inspiring way. In a world built on instant gratification, Northern Blood challenges modern times with a captivating seven-minute odyssey that still seems to fly by. The melodies roll by at a crawl, allowing the listener to soak up every note and engulf the sonic world the duo has built. The arrangement keeps it simple in a head-spinning way, slowly evolving rather than forcing their prowess into more conventional standards. By sticking to their gut and allowing things to happen naturally, Northern Blood crafted an anthem with “Wire Road.” The stunning album cut only scratches the surface of what the duo can accomplish with their innate chemistry, chemistry that manifests into something more significant than the folk-rock genre itself.
“Wire Road is an ode to a pivotal cross-country road trip where three friends’ lives were changed forever,” explains the band.
