LISTEN: Lazy Daze Crafts A Nuanced Garage Rock Anthem With Hazy Tones On “New Tires”

Lazy Daze is back with a new single, and he’s hoping it’s unlike anything you’ve heard from him before. After a hiatus for most of 2024 due to life, Zach Miller (Lazy Daze) is back with a new song, “New Tires.” Originally from Cincinnati, Miller cut his teeth in the downtown indie scene before moving to LA in 2019 to pursue his artistic dreams. After releasing his first EP, Pitted, in 2021 to positive reviews and placements on Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” playlists and David Dean Burkhart’s legendary indie playlist, Lazy Daze has continued to grow and evolve as an artistic expression for Miller.

Miller’s new single, “New Tires,” is a mystifying piece of modern rock fusion. Pop-leaning vocals are drenched in hazy effects as dense, searing guitars break off into competing melodies as they fearlessly battle equally abrasive drums, a chaotic blend of the nuances of modern rock. Miller’s approach is unassuming at first, as his vague poetry is delivered on head-spinning vocals, but with every listen to “New Tires,” another layer of his artistry is unearthed. Underneath the shoegaze-style mix are dynamic sonics that creep around with explosive tendencies. When you think you’ve figured the song out, another harmony jumps out of the speakers, or a stray guitar melody sneaks into your eardrum. The beauty is in the simplicity of Miller’s “New Tires.” The equally complex yet minimalistic single allows the artist’s lofty visions to come to fruition across two-and-a-half minutes of alt-rock bliss.

“Making ‘New Tires’ felt like a sonic re-birth for me – it showed me that I wasn’t tied to any sound or genre,” explains Miller. “I feel like I’m hitting a really exciting point in my career as an artist because I’m trying so many new things sonically that I just wouldn’t have attempted when I was younger. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on.”
