Copenhagen-native Trinelise Vaering is known for her insatiable curiosity and relentless pursuit of new musical horizons. On her upcoming solo album, A Songwriter’s Odyssey she delves deep into her profound love for Americana and (alt) country music. A Songwriter’s Odyssey, which was released on January 31, 2025, marks her eighth album as a solo artist.
“The Call” is the poetically moving highlight from Vaering’s recently released LP. The acoustic Americana arrangement is emphasized by familiar tones structured in an alien way, pinpointing exactly what separates the artist from the burgeoning modern scene. The arrangement, though, is only the start. Vaering’s vocals touch on jazz and pop while staying rooted in folksy charm, all while delivering poignant writing. The longing in the artist’s voice adds an extra layer of vulnerability to the already honest songwriting, giving the listener a look at Vaering as a musician, and more importantly, a person. The artist is letting you into her world on “The Call,” allowing the nuances of her artistry to detail a heartbreaking tale of reaching out for something that might not be there. Vaering is a veteran musician, and her prowess is on full display on “The Call.” The A Songwriter’s Odyssey stand-out is an emotional journey through the artist’s touching approach to tradition.
“Even hearing my own song back is an emotional journey for me, back to a time in 2022 when I was stretched thin – caring for my dying mother, be there for my family at home and at the same time writing songs for this album,” Vaering explains. “As such, a hymn to the so-called sandwich generation wedged in between children still needing your attention and sick elderly parents, who need caring for, while the lyrical I still tries to pursue her own dreams and thereby is afraid of failing the people she loves the most.”
