LISTEN: Caleb L’Etoile Challenges Pop’s Rules With Complex Melodies On “MARIGOLD, YOUR HAIR IS ON FIRE”

Caleb L’Etoile is a Virginia-based artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and singer. He creates experimental bedroom-pop music that blurs the edges of pop, indie rock, and electronica. The artist has released two EPs and a full-length record called You Gathered Friction

L’Etoile approaches his heart with no fear in sight. Whether exploring harsh realities in his lyrics or stretching the limits of pop in his production, the artist’s music is undeniably his own. “MARIGOLD,” the artist’s latest release, begins to tell the tale of L’Etoile’s sonic journey. The stadium-sized artsy pop anthem blends industrial tones with danceable melodies for a collage of individuality. The marriage of these juxtaposing approaches gives “MARIGOLD” its irresistible energy and enticing dynamics, allowing the artist’s lofty visions to find a home in all the chaos. L’Etoile’s acrobatic vocals navigate perilous production choices that transition from acoustic bliss to a distorted dance party all within the song’s four-minute runtime. While the production is an ever-evolving display of the artist’s prowess, his vocals guide you through “MARIGOLD” with infectious ease. No matter how colorful the drum patterns become, the warping vocals anchor the listener down to earth during this otherworldly performance. “MARIGOLD” is a full sprint of a listen that positions L’Etoile as a forward-thinking figure in modern pop, unafraid of challenging norms for the sake of emotionally palpable music.

“‘MARIGOLD’ is as much a love song as a mourning song. It’s a reaction to watching my home and values come under attack from a few greedy men pushing an agenda of hate and ignorance and a determined call to action to resist what we can,” explains L’Etoile. “We only have voices if we use them, and now is the time to do so.”

“This is part of a living album I’m making called I Dreamt I Put Her Body In The Ground‘ that aims to serve as a document of my experience living in this country as we all go through these trials,” continues the artist. “I will be releasing a new song every 2 weeks as the album builds itself.”
