We’ve sung the praises of troubadour Afton Wolfe numerous times in Glide, and his talent and songwriting mission have consistently placed him in the shelves of artists for the greater good of humanity. Why he’s not touring with Jason Isbell and Ryan Bingham is an enigma, but it’s never too late to catch his gospel.
Wolf is back with “Last King of the Blues,” about Clarksdale in his beloved home state of Mississippi. It’s in honor of Pisces and his upcoming Southern Pisces Tour, which will see him on the road for two weeks and hit Texas for the first time. He’s opening for Bonnie Whitmore at the Continental Club in Austin, which will be a raucous show.
Glide is premiering “Last King of the Blues,” (below) which bites with a bluesy touch that reflects the works of Steve Earle and Buddy Miler and a growling gravitas he can call his own.
As Wolfe says “The Father of the Rail Song and the Queen of the Romani Gypsies Are dead and alive, side by side in Meridian Mississippi And there’s a false Prince up in Memphis, wearing Carl Perkins’ stolen shoes but you gotta get off those paved roads if you wanna get time with The Last King of the Blues.’
