Today, pioneering electronic musician and producer Mark Pritchard, along with The Smile and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, announce their debut album as a duo, Tall Tales, set for release on May 9 via Warp Records.
This follows last month’s release of Back In The Game, marking the second time the two have collaborated on record. Their first joint effort was Beautiful People, a critically acclaimed track from Pritchard’s 2016 solo album Under The Sun, also released on Warp.
Alongside the album announcement, they have unveiled a new single, This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice, which premiered this morning on BBC 6 Music with Lauren Laverne. The track is accompanied by a visually striking music video from artist Jonathan Zawada—watch it [here].
A key figure in the evolution of UK electronic music, Pritchard made his mark in the ’90s with projects like Reload, Link, and as one-half of the duo Global Communication alongside Tom Middleton. In 2011, he remixed Radiohead’s Bloom twice, adding to an eclectic career that has seen him remix artists such as Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, and Slowdive.
Tall Tales marks Yorke’s first release on Warp Records. Across its 12-track runtime, the album weaves together multiple narratives and genres, balancing experimental textures with deeply emotive songwriting. Pritchard guides the music through unexpected sonic landscapes using rare, archaic synthesizers, while Yorke delivers a haunting vocal performance, rich with introspective storytelling.
Jonathan Zawada, considered an integral part of the project, brings a distinctive visual identity to Tall Tales. Known for blending analog and digital aesthetics, he not only designed the album artwork but also directed the music videos for Back In The Game and This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice. These videos form part of a larger feature-length film that he has developed alongside the album, crafting surreal, hyperreal environments that juxtapose natural beauty with dystopian undertones.
