From James Brown to Gorillaz, there is no shortage of song titles called “Feel Good.” Yet, some just ring true musically, that perhaps there’s nothing else that fits relatively better. And there’s nothing wrong with a title that leans toward the positive, and Minneapolis-based bluegrass group Maygen & The Birdwatcher nails the conclusive vibe without sounding too saccharine.

On their new song “Feel Good,” which Glide is premiering below, the versatile musicians deliver top-notch musicianship that evokes comparisons to the likes of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Lake Street Dive, and Alison Krauss and Union Station. Led by the twangy and soulful vocals of Maygen Lacey, the band will surely be a festival favorite for years to come.

“Noah and I typically only bring songs to each other when they’re at least halfway done. ‘Feel Good’ is a refreshing song for us because we wrote the whole thing together from the beginning. Noah started strumming the guitar and it just felt so good. We tend to write about quite varying topics, but this one is such a universal feeling that our lyrics easily flowed from there,” says Lacey.

Aside from luminous harmonies and honed arrangements that take years to perfect, Maygen & The Birdwatcher has had a successful start. They’ve won Album of the Year, Americana Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year from the Midwest Country Music Organization, and have shared the stage with artists like Sierra Ferrell, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Grace Potter. With new music due later this year, this might be the breakout year for Maygen & The Birdwatcher, who can fit seamlessly on a Country, Roots, Folk, or Rock stage.
