In case it wasn’t already on your radar, Turnstile’s long-awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Glow On is finally set to drop later this week on June 6th. The album (titled Never Enough) will have arrived nearly a full four years after Glow On effectively propelled them into the cultural mainstream, a remarkable feat for any heavy act these days, much less one that originated from Baltimore’s hardcore punk scene. And while all the success originating from that album was certainly well-deserved, earning Turnstile an entirely new legion of fans in the process, not many people realize the band has been around for a decade and a half now.
Turnstile has spent the majority of their existence as a band grinding it out playing countless sweaty and ruthless basement shows and small clubs over the years, effectively earning their stripes in the hardcore community long before they hit the big time.
Case in point, check out this straight-up unhinged performance from 2013 of the band performing up the road from their hometown at The Electric Factory in Philly. To quote a line from “Things You Do” (which arrives around the 3:45 mark), this performance is proof positive that Turnstile was “not your average, not your ordinary”.
