Weirdo Wednesday: Ty Segall & The Muggers Go Baby “Sloppo” on KEXP

Rounding-out our spotlight on Ty Segall this week, part of what separated him from the garage-rock pack last decade was his willingness to embrace is inner-weirdo and produce some genuinely edgy, twisted material. And for this writer’s money, he never topped the delightfully derisive and manically malevolent vibes he put forth on his brilliant 2016 album Emotional Mugger. Flanked by an all-star cast of Cali psych-rock all-stars in King Tuff and Corey Hanson (aka The Muggers), Segall donned his trademarked “Sloppo” baby-mask (with his faux umbilical cord in tow) and delivered this delightfully disturbing performance on Seattle’s KEXP that probably scared away ½ of his fanbase in the process (which is what makes it so awesome). But the best part? The 2:10 mark when he painstakingly asks into the camera “why mommy, why did you leave me? Why did you let me go?” Then cue agonizing screams. This folks, was Ty at his peculiarly provocative peak. Observe:
