“When I fall, I fall hard. Sometimes that means I play out a whole relationship in my mind, and sabotage it before it ever takes root,” says Lyal Strickland about his track “O Arkansas” off his new live six-song EP Ghost Light at the Gillioz. Recorded live at the historic Gillioz Theatre in Springfield, Missouri, the EP showcases Strickland’s emotive narratives, which are rich in conviction and melody. Strickand resides in that artistic cocoon of “should be famous, but isn’t,” yet his journey as a singer-songwriter is soon due to be rewarded with well-deserved appreciation and discovery.
Glide is premiering this live cut of “O Arkansas,” off this raw, six-song EP that marks both a homecoming and a rebirth. Deep cuts from previous albums like Misery and Mischief Prone take on new meaning in this stage of Strickland’s journey, while new songs like “Gatherin’ Dust” speak to the feeling of spinning your wheels in tumultuous times. While Strickland self-confesses his ability to fall hard, it often results in the most poignant of songs.
