It’s mid-July, which effectively means we’re in the very pit of summer heat for most folks in the northern hemisphere. Indeed, if mid-January is the “dead of winter”, conjuring up feelings of bleakness, darkness, and harshness, then surely mid-July should be the antithesis of that idea, right? And for those of us who have a marked seasonality to our music listening habits, July calls for warmer aural vibes and sultrier rhythms broadly speaking. Which leads us to today’s artist of the week, a band that needs no introduction and whose music is always a great choice regardless of the season, but feels like a particularly surefire bet for summer in particular: The Police.
And for today’s Manic Monday, we’re offering up what might be the best soundtrack for launching oneself into a large body of water on a hot summer’s day, the title track from their classic second album “Reggatta de Blanc”. And if you don’t happen to have a pool to jump in at present time, you can at least “soak in” this killer performance of the track performed live from 1979 in the meantime (then godspeed to the pool)!
