LISTEN: MAMA Ft. Antonella’s “Ghost” Is Haunting Blues-Rock With Cinematic Flair

MAMA ft. Antonella is writer, Antonella Gambotto-Burke, and multiplatinum producer Gavin Monaghan. Described as “phenomenal” and a “riveting stone killer” by critics, their debut album, Apex Predators, has just been released on May 21. Based in England, the British duo, who only started gigging in late April, plan to bring their electric, psychedelic, goth, bluegrass, and alternative rock to the States in 2026.

“Ghost” is the hauntingly explosive stand-out from MAMA ft. Antonella’s freshly released debut album. The duo crafts a cinematic, stadium-sized piece of bluesy art-rock, featuring an intricately arranged composition that adds even more depth to the acrobatic vocal performance. “Ghost” is a stunning introduction to this young band, as it hints at the unique sound they have created for themselves. With splashes of longing that hint at blues, droning melodies akin to prog-rock, and unwavering individuality that gives the song an art-rock feel, MAAMA Ft. Antonella’s have already done the heavy lifting of finding their sonic niche, and it is an immersive one at that. “Ghost” is a flourishing example of the natural chemistry between two artists hellbent on creating a corner of the world they can call their own.

“On hearing the lyrics and melody, Gavin wanted to create a 1930s American sharecropper vibe – a dusty dancehall somewhere obscure where love goes to die,” Antonella says. “‘Ghost’ was written from a place of such intense pain that I could barely stand being conscious, so it’s strictly music for people who know what it is to really lose love.”
