LISTEN: Jake Knox Spins Simplistic Poetry Into Potent Pop On “Your Love”

Indie Rock meets the taste of Alt Hip-Hop with a sprinkle of Trombone. Los Angeles-based artist Jake Knox takes the wheel and drives us into an unexplored region of the music industry.

If you’re unfamiliar, Jake Knox’s first journey was with the multi-platinum artist Bipolar Sunshine. They toured and wrote the song “Tears,” which quickly spread and accumulated millions of streams. While on the road, he met and partnered up with J.Patt from the EDM duo The Knocks and started production on his sophomore record, Breaking up with Dreams. The artist’s third record, Jake Is Dead, Pt. 1, was released on June 27.

“Your Love” is an early highlight from Knox’s recently released LP, and it is a quaint, lovely introduction to the artist’s penchant for refreshing and infectious pop. A gentle breeze sweeps through the room upon pressing play, and that relaxed feeling that washes over you is all by design. “Your Love” takes the complexity of one of life’s most confusing emotions and distills the inner workings of love into a simplistic yet potent alt-pop tune with soulful undertones. Knox’s soaring falsettos welcome you to “Your Love” as they swiftly capture your attention with care and grace, just before the verses hit you like a harsh reality check. Guest vocalist Alexi Blue makes a powerful impact with her verses, adding another layer of vulnerability to the stripped-down love ballad.

“‘Your Love’ is a song I wrote at one of the higher points of my life. After having been through 2 near-death experiences and a big heartache, I finally felt that spark again that had been missing for some time. Every now and then, you feel like life has got you on the ropes forever, but then an amazing person can change your life in a second,” explains Knox. “This song is about feeling that, as well as being more on the intimate side. I also teamed up with my friend Alexi Blue. She has a verse on this that is both melodically beautiful and lyrically fire.”
