Continuing our tribute to the late great Ozzy Osbourne this week, for today’s Tuesday’s Gone, we’re throwing it back to the very earliest beginnings of his career with this remarkable performance of “War Pigs” live from 1970. But this performance is so early it differs from the studio version of the song that everyone would come to know and love on Sabbath’s classic 1971 album Paranoid. Indeed, technically, this OG version of the song was actually called “Walpurgis”, which is named after a festival of Danish origin to ward off evil spirits. As such, it features slightly different lyrics throughout, but whatever the case, this punchy up-tempo performance of the song is undeniably kick-ass and offers a fascinating glimpse of Ozzy and Black Sabbath in their infancy as a band.
