Magic Nic was not born into a musical home. Magic Nic left the cold New England plateau chasing a sound he couldn’t name—finding pieces of it on the sticky stages and amongst broken amplifiers in Sydney’s Inner West. Cutting his teeth belting harmonies in garage-pop outfit Easy Street and transcending the astral plane with noise-rockers Greyhound, he began stitching together his own crooked hymns—part confession, part conjuring.
Magic Nic & the General Electric put together a fuzzy piece of modern blues magic on “Harvey.” The first full-band release from Nic’s new outfit is an electrifying, psychedelic outing with colorful textures that rain around the listener. This rain, though, is not the bittersweet kind. “Harvey” stirs up a storm that washes the listener with a sweetness that becomes more irresistible with each listen, displaying the undeniable, natural chemistry of this newly minted band. Lyrically, “Harvey” seems to personify the complexity of the emotions stirred up in isolation, almost as if Nic is conversing with himself about the heaviness of fleeting feelings. “Harvey” introduces Magic Nic & The General Electric as fearless masters of their craft as they create an immersive, modern blues marvel that is simply captivating.
