- If I could give a Jam Cruise virgin a tip or two, I’d tell em’ to train for the party. This is the real deal! The party of all parties, the festival to rival all! Lots of excitement not much sleep. I suggest warming up on a few baby festivals in December. Practice having fun until your legs give out. Keep a chart of your progress you need to get up to an average of 22 hours of dancing before you lay down and you must keep this pace for approximately four days! Once you have reached you party fitness goals you can focus on other things. Such as aloe vera and sunscreen for the super white folks.
- It will be warm and tropical where we are going but bring at least one outfit to keep you warm just in case it gets chilly, a poncho just in case God throws a rain party and some swim wear just in case you wanna make a splash.
- If you plan on going shopping pack an empty bag so you don’t have to buy one.
- Don’t play me or Ivan Neville in poker unless you feel like donating money to a good cause.
- Remember to get good sleep for at least two days before departing.
- Bring your vitamins, leave your phone, forget about the mainland, and get ready for the time of your life with me and the rest of the Jam Cruise family.
- Oh yeah P.S. Bring an extra 15 dollars for my new album Another Day I could use the poker money.

- The standard “it’s a marathon not a sprint” definitely applies.
- As hard as it may be, get some sleep before we dock at the ports. The locations are always amazing and filled with great stuff to do.
- Do not miss Bruce Hornsby, Surprise Me Mr. Davis, or Nathan Moore-even if they’re opposite PGroove. (I haven’t checked to see if we overlap, but I sure hope not!)
- Be sure to always listen to the intercom, it’s almost always good for a laugh.
- Shower, nobody likes a stinky hippy. Nobody.
- Don’t miss Nathan Moore.
- If there’s lobster and steak on the menu, yes you can have a surf n’ turf. Or you can pull a Ron Swanson and get 2 steaks, also known as the “Turf n’ Turf”
- Thank Annabelle.
- Don’t miss Nathan Moore.
- Thank Bruce Hornsby, just ’cause. Somehow figure out a way to use “that’s just the way it is” in a conversation, because I’m sure he never hears that….
- Yell “Give it up for my band Sexual Chocolate!” whenever you see Karl Denson, because let’s face it, if you were in any movie with Eddie Murphy you would want people to remember it forever too.
- Thank Annabelle.
- Don’t miss Nathan Moore, or Brock Butler.
Scott Bernstein (This Will Be My Third Jam Cruise)
- I know many of our respondents talked about pacing yourself, but I especially recommend not over doing it on the first night. It’s tough, believe me, you get on the boat, enter paradise and want to live it up. Yet the second day is filled with incredible music, so get at least a few hours of sleep.
- The final day of the trip we’re at sea and is another day chock full of action. Pack early that day so you don’t find yourself at 1AM in the middle of a great set that you’ve got to leave because you never packed. Also, it’s tough hearing over the PA at 7AM that it’s time to depart, I’d suggest getting an hour or two of shuteye before that announcement comes. An hour of sleep is better than nothing.
Karl Denson (KDTU – Theater, January 9 @ 2AM | Pool Deck, January 12 @ 8:30PM)
- Lots of sleep and fresh vegetables before we set sail.

steve allen sounds like not only the smartest person this side of the sun, but also devilishly handsome. Like a cross between George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Yoda and Norm from Cheers.
Can’t wait for the boat!!!
it’s a sprinting marathon.
Looking forward to never being the same again. Thanks for the tips all.
Good luck on the High Seas and remember!
Red in the morning, sailors take warning.
Red at night and Heady delights!
That Steve Allen guy sounds awesome!!!
Thanks for the Tips,
Can’t wait to run around and frolic on the boat.
L*ook for the free beer hour.
*Watch from the top of the ship at least once as it’s a great angle
*Listen to the banter in the bathrooms as it’s HILARIOUS.
*Get to merch early unless you’re a medium
*Make yourself go to the restaurant at least once though it may get in the way of spinning
*Silent auction can be surprisingly cheap. I have a Lebo painting accordingly
*Forget the pace gig. But do get some sleep the first 24 hours or you’re wrecked for two days following the flights etc.
*You really can’t be told how it is. Like trying to describe a taste. But you’ll rebook when you get off I guarantee
i second waful’s idea of bringing christmas lights. i always string them up in my room and then i put a piece of paper in the card holder that turns out the lights, so lights are on all the time in my room. i also bring a small mp3 player/speaker (doesnt take much) for the room and keep some downtempo electronica going all the time. it really helps to have soft light and soft music going in the room when you come back for a pit stop, and much easier to set up when sober(ish).
some of the best things about jam cruise arent on the schedule. the friends and people you meet are a huge part of it. also there are acoustic performances around the boat that are unannounced in the early morning hours that are amazing to be a part of.
repeat offender who still hasn’t seen the sunrise lol. I gotta do something about that this year!
I agree with the note to visitors get familiar with the boat and interior quite fast. It took me less than two days to research all the decks, restaurants, spas and wellness rooms. It was so much easy to accommodate knowing where is what
Great article, but I disagree with Keller on one thing. Bring your kids!!!! They will love it and have the time of their lives.
I wish people would leave their kids at home.
