Mark Knopfler Releasing Next Solo Album – Kill to Get Crimson – Sept. 17

Mark Knopfler will release his next solo album, "Kill To Get Crimson," Sept. 17 internationally and a day later in North America. The 12-track set began to take shape last year and was put to tape in early 2007.

"Kill To Get Crimson" is the follow-up to 2004’s "Shangri-La," which debuted at No. 66 on The Billboard 200. Last year, Knopfler teamed with Emmylou Harris for the collaborative album "All the Road Running," which spawned a tour and subsequent live effort.

According to his Web site, Knopfler may play a few live shows around the release of the new effort.

In related news, the artist recently re-recorded Dire Straits’ "Brothers in Arms" for release as a charity download. Proceeds will benefit the South Atlantic Medal Association, which represents veterans of the 1980s Falkland Islands war.
