Sturgill Simpson Adds U.S. Dates For Spring Tour

Country sensation Sturgill Simpson will continue his sold-out U.S. tour this spring, including dates at Austin’s Stubb’s Amphitheater on April 2 and San Francisco’s The Fillmore on April 18. Tickets are on-sale this Friday, January 23. In addition to the headlining shows, Simpson is also confirmed to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Stagecoach, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo and the Big Barrel Country Music Festival. The performances celebrate Simpson’s highly acclaimed 2014 release, Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, which was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Americana Album” (iTunesAmazonBandcamp). Since the album’s release, Simpson and his band—bassist Kevin Black, guitarist Laur Joamets and drummer Miles Miller—have performed on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Conan” and the “Late Show with David Letterman” as well as on the BBC’s “Later Live with Jools Holland,” “Later…with Jools Holland,” American Public Media’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” and NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series. Simpson was also recently awarded “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the 2014 Americana Honors & Awards.
Produced once again by friend and trusted collaborator Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Lindi Ortega, Jamey Johnson),Metamodern Sounds In Country Music was recorded live-to-tape at Nashville’s LCS studio over four days in late 2013. Of the album, Simpson comments, “Myriad worldly offerings—religion, drugs, and more—all claim to be the omnipotent universal truth, but in my experience, love is the only certainty. That’s what this record is about.”
