The Pretenders announced today a headlining tour through North American starting August 4 at the Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario. Cat Power and Juliette Lewis will support on certain dates of the tour.
The Pretenders touring line up of Chrissie Hynde, Martin Chambers, James Walbourne, Eric Heywood, and Nick Wilkinson, will make their second run through North America in support of their ninth album, the critically lauded Break Up The Concrete (Shangri-La Music). The album, which Rolling Stone said was, "The best Pretenders album in years," and Spin described as, "stripped bare and dangerous," was recorded in 12 days in Los Angeles and offers an especially gritty and immediate sound that recalls the band’s earlier days. The album spawned two hit singles the #1 AAA track "Boots Of Chinese Plastic" and "Love’s A Mystery." This same line up toured North America this past February and March to awestruck audiences and rave reviews.
Cat Power is the nom de rock of Chan Marshall. Over almost 15 years and eight albums, she’s established herself as one of the most beloved and influential singer/songwriters of recent years. Her most recent album, Jukebox, is her second album of cover songs, and a tribute to the great vocalists that have inspired her over the years. Following this tour, she’ll be starting work on her next album of original material, tentatively due on Matador Records in early 2010.
Juliette Lewis is ready to unveil her new album, Terra Incognita via The End Records on September 1, 2009. Instrumental in creating the sound for this new record is the album’s producer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, leader of Mars Volta. Lewis wrote most of the 11 tracks with long time friend and musician Chris Watson over the past year and at home on piano using a tape recorder. The record was mixed by the legendary Rich Costey (NIN, Muse, Foo Fighters).
