For my final contribution to Classic Rock Week I thought I’d dig deep into the vaults and introduce you to a band that should have been as big as any of the acts that came out of the San Francisco scene of the mid ’60s: Moby Grape.
Fronted by original Jefferson Airplane drummer Skip Spence, the band’s self-titled debut may be the best album to come out of the psychedelic ballroom era. Overzealous record execs at the time seem to know that too, and over-hyped the band by issuing five singles off the album at once – a hard thing to live up to for any band.
