Marta Pacek has had an interesting journey. The singer grew up just outside the Australian capital of Canberra but her passion for making music quickly drove her to start a globe-trotting journey that eventually led her to Canada where she had been discovered and taken on by her Toronto-based management. Her alt-country meets folk sound has drawn comparisons to the likes of Lucinda Williams, Anne Murray, and Patsy Cline. However, don’t be mistaken – Marta Pacek possesses a one-of-a-kind voice and style, and is an artist to watch as she starts to tour the U.S. more and more.
Marta’s third album, Voodoo Dolls and False Alarms, was released last year and received praise from critics across the board, even garnering her an award for “Best Alt Country Album” at the Independent Music Awards. Though her album has been out for over a year, she decided to make a selection of music videos to help get the word out about her handful of upcoming U.S. tour dates in September and October. Glide Magazine is excited to present an exclusive premiere of the new video for “The Hunted”, the first track on Voodoo Dolls and False Alarms. The haunting song feels like it could be on the soundtrack to True Detective with its mysterious, sexy vocals and lyrics. For the video, Pacek wanted to make it “purposefully playful in order to contrast the darkness of the song”. Reflecting on “The Hunted”, Pacek says, “This video was a lot of fun to make. I really tried make light of the old ‘Hell, hath no fury as a woman scorned’ theme that is commonly represented in music, film and art but usually in a more serious tone. Sometimes it’s nice to look back at dramatic events in life in a comical tone. You know, just to take the edge off life a little”.
