The Devil Makes Three To Hit The Road In 2016

The Devil Makes Three, the three piece string-band consisting of Pete Bernhard, Cooper McBean and Lucia Turino, have spent the better part of ten years wowing crowds and gaining fans at their exuberant live shows, one by one from the small house parties in Santa Cruz, CA where they started to huge festivals in the US like Newport Folk and Lollapalooza. Coming off a successful tour of the UK and Europe, the band return to the US in support of their critically acclaimed release

I’m A Stranger Here which got 4 stars in MOJO Magazine.

The band will play some of their biggest shows to date including The Wiltern in Los Angeles and two nights at the Fox Theatre in their hometown of Oakland.

While The Devil Makes Three’s string band influences are  a distinctive mix of roots, blues, old time and back-country stomp, the modern subject matter of their songs keeps listeners looking ahead. “The lyrical content isn’t about hard-rock miners or…the things Woody Guthrie would have written about. I don’t like the idea of becoming a historical re-enactment,” Bernhard said.

Their modern take on classic themes has won accolades from critics across the board, with NPR describing the trio as “acoustic roots music with a relentless beat in mind at all times,” going on to praise their “whiskey-drenched, ramshackle fury, and “fiendish intensity.”
