Nashville indie singer-songwriter Matthew Ryan will continue his U.S. tour supporting Dear Lover with the addition of dates in April and May opening for John Hiatt and a headlining tour of the Southeast in June.
He recently returned from a Northeast run which kicked off with the first ever LIVE broadcast on Sirius/XM Chn 50’s "The Loft". He also performed on the WFXT Fox Morning News in Boston and the NBC 10! Show in Philadelphia.
In between tours, Matthew and American Fine Arts Photographer Jack Spencer released a spare, desolate, rich and beautiful video for "The World Is," track 9 from Dear Lover.
The collaboration started last fall when Matthew asked Jack is he would consider putting his pictures to a song of Jack’s choosing off of Dear Lover. Jack chose "The World Is" and what transpired grew to be a true collaboration with moving images that Jack Spencer created specifically for the song.
The video for "The World Is" is a unique and cinematic cross-pollination of two modern artists. The video can be viewed in HD and cost only $16 to make. VIEW the video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlYDTHmfnI8
In a recent feature, Vanity Fair’s Frank DiGiacomo appropriately likened Matthew’s new album to a film in "The Movies In Matthew Ryan’s Mind". Mr. DiGiacomo described Dear Lover as "a stark cinematic soundscape sculpted from his signature folktronica sound and spare, often stunning lyrics that convey the vast upheaval that has taken place in American life since the turn of the century."
"Leaked" digitally in October 2009, Dear Lover is in stores on February 16th by The Dear Future Collective distributed through Junketboy/CIMS.
The Tennessean describes the disc as "bold and cathartic rock work that mixes anarchy, harmony, static and ambience with his wounded growl" and likens to "Wilco’s beautifully difficult breakthrough Yankee Hotel Foxtrot."
Blurt affirms, "An insightful artist with an intuitive ability to capture mood and emotion, he writes dirge-like melodies that hang like a shroud, each draped in a dense atmospheric overlay. Dear Lover varies little from that template, a haunting, eerily beautiful dissertation on the intricacies of intimacy."
And USA Today recommends the album as "a great new excuse to discover a writer who pens love songs as tough as Jim Thompson novels… Some rockers must scream when they plumb emotions at this depth. Ryan rarely has to raise his voice above a raspy whisper."
