28 years ago (6/28/88), Public Enemy released their second studio album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. Led by Chuck D, this LP is one classic track after another and hugely influential recording that would set a blueprint for social commentary hip hop for years to follow. Public Enemy used the template Run-D.M.C. created earlier then added elements of free jazz and funk, via their producing team, the Bomb Squad, creating something ferocious yet inviting.
