35 years ago today (5/4/82), The Cure released Pornography, which is often lauded as The Cure’s strongest overall LP. It is considered by Robert Smith to be the first record of a trilogy including 1989’s Disintegration, and 1999’s Bloodflow. Following its release, bass guitarist Simon Gallup left the band and the Cure switched to a much brighter and more radio-friendly new wave sound, but this one is considered their “goth” masterpiece.
