Happy 81st birthday today to Phil Lesh who was born on 3/15/40. The Grateful Dead founding member has evolved into iconic stature himself, like that of his late bandmate Jerry Garcia. While helping to formulate what has become the modern-day improvisational rock sound with his articulating bass lines, Lesh has been just as proactive post-Dead through various Phil & Friends ensembles and most recently his Terrapin Family Band. As we celebrate Phil into his ’80 lets look back the golden year of the Dead during Europe’ 72 -4/17/72 at Tivolis Koncerstsal in Copenhagen, Denmark – also one of Pigpen’s last shows.
