In September 2011, British-based indie folk/rock duo Slow Club released their sophomore album Paradise to critical and commercial acclaim; however, they’ve yet to replicate their massive popularity on American shores. But if there were an album to launch them from small (yet hardened) fandom to widespread underground success, it’d definitely be Paradise. Building on the sparse folk and power chord-driven alternative rock synthesis they explored on their debut Yeah, So (2009), in 2011 Slow Club deepened their approach with thoughtful orchestrations, lithe songwriting and bewitching vocals. For a band so young, they’ve already established themselves as a compelling studio act and an even more engaging live act.
Earlier this week, Slow Club began a short run of US dates along the West Coast, and today they play the Brick + Mortar Music Hall in the Mission district of San Francisco– an incredibly intimate venue that showcases exciting up-and-coming acts. With the building celebrity of the band, it’ll become increasingly difficult to see them in such small venues in the coming years.
