Sadly today the world lost master poet and lyricist Robert Hunter at age 78, whose lyrical contributions to The Grateful Dead’s music were as vital and important as Jerry Garcia’s melodies and vocals. Hunter created a world of characters and imagery from an old-timey world where stories of Dire Wolfs, Wharf Rats, Dark Stars, Jack Straws and China Cats created a soundtrack to many a life and hosted its own musical realm. Hunter was officially inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as a member of the Dead in 1995, despite not being a performing member. While Hunter wrote many a death dirge, its only fitting to think he’s prepared for his next voyage.
