L.A.-based indie/folk pop artist Sara Melson captivates with a unique and singular voice that cracks with vulnerability and pierces with clarity on her upcoming EP, Wild & Precious Life, due out in early 2020. Sara appeared in numerous films & TV shows, including Frasier and The Wonder Years, before turning to songwriting and releasing her first album on Nettwerk Records. She has shared the stage with Ben Folds, Juliana Hatfield, Inara George, Neil Halstead, and Lissie, and provided backing vocals for Moby on The Tonight Show and for Mojave 3 on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic.
Wild & Precious Life was co-produced by Melson, Rick Parker (Lord Huron, Joseph Arthur, BRMC, Jeremy & The Harlequins), and multi-instrumentalist/guitarist Danny Hechter (Badflower, Jordan McGraw) with Hechter adding guitar and drums. Bassists Nick Diiorio (Jordan McGraw) and Sean Sobash (Dominic Fike), drummer Jonas Streffer, guitarist Jake Faun, and violinists Koi Anunta (Jules Galli) and Kerenza Peacock (Adele) also added to the recordings. Eric Breiner of PeachMusicLA remixed several of the EP’s tracks, including State of Ease. Melson’s sound, revitalizing and direct, takes cues from the Tori Amos and Björk playbooks of candidness and grace.
Written and performed on piano and guitar, her songs reflect on hard-won lessons and a continued journey toward serenity and self-acceptance. “State of Ease,” which she says welled up in deep meditation, is a prayer for transcendence — the quest to maintain equanimity in the face of anxiety-producing challenges. “No one can escape pain, physical or emotional,” she explains. “I’ve had my share of both. I’m endeavoring to be accepting of what is. In yogic terms, remaining non-reactive and calm — being in a state of ease, of flow, no matter what the circumstances — is the ultimate achievement.”
Glide is proud to premiere Melson’s new single State of Ease, with its ethereal vocals and enchanting melodies that echo Kate Bush, in advance of its November 22nd release.
