As Ocie Elliot, Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy – dream up dusty folk painted in broad strokes of acoustic instrumentation and lyrical eloquence meant for nights under the stars, long drives with no destination, and quiet moments of reprieve. The duo will release their new EP Slow Tide on March 12, 2021 via Nettwerk,
Victoria BC based duo ‘Ocie Elliot’ deliver a poignant and haunting new single ‘Back Door Run’ (below) that blends gorgeous harmonies, minimalistic acoustic guitar, a steady backbeat, and tasteful production. Fusing their vocals effortlessly, Lundy has a voice that will make time stand still while Middleton’s smooth vibrato brings a sense of calm to a world that is seemingly imploding in front of our eyes. A song born from a fight between friends shows us once again that beauty can come from discourse. Fans of Beach House and Phantogram will find this one enchanting.
“We had gotten in a ridiculous fight,” Middleton recalls about the song. “Sierra was mad I didn’t sing in falsetto more. She left, and I sat down and started singing in falsetto to spite her. The melody for ‘Back Door Run’ came out of me. The song is about an emotionally destructive relationship that’s so powerful, but it doesn’t work at the same time. It reminded me of the show Big Little Lies.”
