New four-piece OMONOKO is fast becoming one of Ireland’s most exciting new exports with a smart alt pop flair that is both adventurous, experimental, and harmonious.
With streams racking up to over 3,000,000 on music licensing website Jamendo and their track ‘Empty Streets’ catching a sync wave on BBC Sport’s highlights of the six nations Rugby in 2019, plus acclaim from BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and top Irish tastemaker blogs Nialler 9 and Chord Blossom, OMONOKO are carving out an intriguing and interesting career for themselves.
Glide is thrilled to premiere “Weight In Gold” a snappy groove of alt-soul, electronica, and experimental rock that is obscenely relevant. OMONOKO rekindles the smart alt-pop flame of Alt-J, Glass Animals, Foals and Local Natives all while retaining its own eclectic array of sound.
“Weight in Gold continues our exploration into musical genres,” says the band. “The song incorporates an addictive bassline, simple but effective electronic sounds, hooky guitar lines and falsetto vocals that deliver a chilled, yet uplifting track. This song marks the combination of styles that we as a band have been searching for. We individually have separate music tastes, however with this track we were are all able to include our own inspirations and ideas, to create a sound that was truly unique to us. Lyrically the song focuses on an individual’s need to have a break from the outside world, to re-establish a connection with themselves, and to focus on what their next move in life will be. “
