LISTEN: French Cassettes Press Play On Contagiously Slick ‘Santa Cruz Tomorrow’

Out via Tender Loving Empire, San Francisco- based French Cassettes hits us with a groove and pop sensibility reserved for both tastemakers, music snobs, and the festival set. With a thoughtful arrangement, catchy and clever wordplay, and an impressive vocal range, French Cassettes’ new album Rolodex is out on December 11th. Check out “Santa Cruz Tomorrow,” the buttery new single from French Cassettes where the worlds of Portugal. The Man, Cage the Elephant, and Tame Impala collide in a mishmash of electro-pop glory.

“Most of the song came from fooling around on my friend’s Omnichord, which has a sound that’s pretty hard not to love,” says Scott Huerta. “So I tried to keep that charm when writing the rest of the track’s instruments. I was obviously sleep deprived to feel like singing about the end of a past relationship and a fifth grade project I made on the Donner Party in the same song. As well, I had just asked my roommate what the hottest pepper in the world is, and wanted to slip that into the lyrics at the beginning… ‘So. Carolina Reaper.’”
