LISTEN: Odd Postures Create Dynamic Alt Musical Movements Via “Gymnasium”

Odd Postures is a Toronto based indie-electronic rock band composed of drummer Calvin Castellino, guitarist Mark Anderson, and singer/keyboardist Matthew O’Halloran.

Check out the crafty and nostalgic new single “Gymnasium” from Odd Postures. Built on an inviting and sturdy vocal performance, by  O’Halloran, we find powerful harmonies colliding on the back of a restrained and warm rhythm section. Odd Postures exhibits a deep sense of dynamic movement while combining concise lyrical design: a riveting alt-rocker in line with Two Door Cinema Club and The 1975.

“The song was written as an attempt to revisit the awkward energy of my first high-school dance. It’s not autobiographical but I did steal a lot from what I remember. In this case, it was in rural Ontario and the attendance was only about 50-75 students. I remember having a lot of contrasting emotions; fear, excitement, bewilderment, nervous-joy. I think you can hear some of the anxiety in the guitars. They have a certain level of assertiveness but there’s some obvious trepidation there as well. I didn’t notice it at the time, but the kick drum seems to mimic a sort-of, scattered heartbeat,” says O’Halloran.
