Five Years Ago Today- ‘Day Of The Dead’ Is Released Feat 59 Grateful Dead Covers (Listen “New Speedway Boogie by Courtney Barnett)

Five years ago today (5/20/16), The National releases an anthology album of 59 Grateful Dead covers called Day of the Dead, with a slew of appearances from artists on wouldn’t naturally associate with the freeform Americana sounds of The Dead. This ambitious project spearheaded by brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner appearances by War on Drugs, Angel Olsen, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Local Natives Bruce Hornsby, Courtney Barnett, and more.  Proceeds went to the Red Hot Organization, which helps fight AIDS.
