50 Years Ago Today- Legendary Saxophonist King Curtis Dies at 37 (Watch Live From Montreux ’71)

50 years ago today (8/13/71) saxophonist King Curtis tragically died at age 37 after being stabbed outside of his apartment in New York City. Curtis had a distinctive playing style that held its footing strong in a variety of foundations that included rock and roll, which many jazz players tended to stray from. In addition to being a bandleader of his own, Curtis collaborated with many including Waylon Jennings, Buddy Holly. and Duane Allman.
