Northwest-based Free Creatures is comprised of Marv Ellis, Emily Turner, and Skyler Squglio. Together they present a high-energy set full of vintage jazz samples, shlumpin’ dance beats, and playfully uplifting harmonies.
On Free Creatures’ “Inviting You In,” Turner’s voice is a jazzy R&B flavored perfectly ingredient to complement the retro & urban aura there. With thick bass tones and tactile guitar touches, the sonic world on the track is lush, tastefully created, and well arranged. Often modern hip-hop can be void of space and form, where Free Creatures does not solely boast solid flow and tone, they also display a keen awareness of songcraft.
