Dallas Good, guitarist and singer of Canadian alt-country band The Sadies, has passed away. He was 48 years old. At writing, the cause of death remains unknown.
Sadies bassist Sean Dean told the news to Derek Peterson, an author of the book Tomorrow is Too Late: Toronto Hardcore Punk in the 1980s, as confirmed by Exclaim.
A tweet from @malmisanthrope shared photos of Good said to be taken 30 years ago.
Good and his brother, singer-guitarist Travis Good, formed The Sadies in 1994 in Toronto, and the band, which also includes drummer Mike Belitsky, released their first album, Precious Moments, in 1998.
But it was The Sadies’ 2002 album, Stories Often Told, that grabbed the attention of critics and music fans.
The band’s 10th studio album and most recent effort, 2017’s Northern Passages, which was recorded in the Good brothers’ childhood home, is hailed by fans as a psychedelic-folk masterpiece.
Brooklyn Vegan remembered Good collaborated with music legends Kurt Vile, Neil Young, and Neko Case, among many other musicians. The Sadies wrote, recorded, and toured extensively with Case.
Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith tweeted, “I was honoured to perform with them quite a few times over the years. My heart goes out to Travis, Sean & Mike and to their friends & family including extended music families. Sigh …”
