The songs of MF Tomlinson are the down-but-not-out chronicles of ordinary life, widescreen portraits of his relationships and neighborhood painted with a cast of talented collaborators. MF’s on a musical mission to turn up the transcendental in his everyday experiences. Based in London, he released his first single ‘Nature Boy’ in April this year and made his live debut at a sold-out show at The Lexington. In July, his second single ‘Sum of Nothing’ launched at a packed-out Moth Club and saw MF and the gang support Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever.
“A Cloud”, the latest single from London’s MF Tomlinson, is an orchestral and cinematic offering that explores the necessity of both the light and dark to make the world go round and how often both can exist in seemingly the same space and moment. Tomlinson’s unassuming Bill Callahan-like voice is supported by a precisely arranged backdrop of strings and wind instruments that thematically follow the lyrical twists and turns presented throughout. “A Cloud” is accompanied by the first part of a theatre, dance, and film work conceived, directed, and choreographed by MF’s collaborator Daisy JT Smith. The album, and the film, will be unveiled piece by piece throughout the year.
“A Cloud is about how painful it is to live without your innermost desires. It is, in the same breath, about how beautiful life is despite all of its sadness, and how even the smallest moments can satisfy your spirit. It begins where Strange Time leaves off. In my apartment, from my window we move through scenes of the street, through memories and hallucinations,” says Tomlinson.
