Whitney has been on the cusp of a big breakthrough since their extremely well-reviewed debut, 2016’s Light Upon The Lake landed them on multiple Billboard charts. Last night (July 19) Whitney brought their latest single “Real Love” to the late-night stage with a performance of the slow-burner on Kimmel. This is the band’s first late-night appearance since they performed “Golden Days” on the Colbert show in 2017.
Much like the music video for the new song, the stage was cloaked in moody, psychedelic colors as the lead singer/songwriters Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek were joined by dual pianos and a set of backup singers. The two shared drumming duties as their falsettos floated over cloud-like synths and a minimal yet groovy drum pattern.
“Real Love” is the latest offering from Whitney’s upcoming album SPARK set for release on September 16 through Secretly Canadian. This is the duo’s first release since 2020’s Candid, an album of covers that pulls songs from the likes of John Denver and SWV.
