30 Years Ago Today- Blind Melon Released Eponymous Debut Album

30 years ago today (9/22/92), Blind Melon released its self-titled debut album- what many recognize as the bumble bee girl on the cover- of course, who starred in the video for the lead single “No Rain.” While “No Rain” received heavy MTV airplay, lead singer Shannon Hoon had previously received some serious screen time the prior year when he added guest vocals on Guns N’ Roses “Don’t Cry,” and appeared in the video. This debut helped make Blind Melon one of the early 90s’ bigger buzz bands and the band scored a second hit with “Tones of Home.” Blind Melon’s second album Soup (released eight weeks before Hoon’s fatal overdose) is a better top to bottom record, but it’s this ’92 debut that most will assimilate the late Hoon and his whispy vocals with. Check out Blind Melon’s ’94 memorable performance at Woodstock – one of their strongest live shows of record.
