The mysterious and critically-acclaimed vocalist/producer MIKE returns with a new single and news on a new album. Coming off the high praise of his 2021 album, Disco!, the New York City artist prepares to unleash his latest offering Beware of the Monkey out December 21 via his own label 10K. In preparation for the release the ever-diverse vocalist releases the album’s first single accompanied by a Ryosuke Tanzawa-directed video, you can watch “Nuthin I Can Do is Wrng” below.
MIKE is the well-traveled poet presenting his thoughts over well-crafted, minimalistic instrumentals he produces himself. The 24-year-old has been building a following for years by keeping a prolific release schedule and honing his craft to create otherworldly examples of hip-hop specifically curated to MIKE’s wide array of influences. The entirely self-produced album Disco! made waves upon its release and skyrocketed MIKE to the front of the New York hip-hop scene. On his latest single MIKE’s songwriting elevates yet again and his sample-chopping alter ego DJ Blackpower provides another soulful, gentle instrumental.
On “Nuthin I Do is Wrng”, MIKE navigates personal turmoils as he simultaneously tries to find his footing within the music industry. The video shows MIKE at his home studio as he harmonizes with the crooning sample before laying down a verse that has the artist as vulnerable as ever.
